Jimmy Carter shakes hands with every passenger aboard his flight to DC

Former President Jimmy Carter was spotted on a flight en route to Washington on Thursday for President-elect Donald Trump‘s inauguration.

Carter walked up and down the aisle of a Delta Air Lines flight that left Atlanta, shaking hands with passengers, according to an Atlanta Journal Constitution report.

Carter was the first former president to say he would attend Trump’s Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony.

Former President Bill Clinton and his wife, Hillary Clinton, the 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, announced earlier this month that they would also attend the inauguration, along with former President George W. Bush.

George H.W. Bush, the nation’s 41st president, will not attend. He wrote in a letter to the president-elect that he was not well enough to make an in-person appearance.

“My doctor says if I sit outside in January, it likely will put me six feet under. Same for Barbara. So I guess we’re stuck in Texas,” Bush wrote earlier this month.

Bush is currently hospitalized after undergoing a procedure to clear his airways on Wednesday.

Carter endorsed Hillary Clinton during the 2016 campaign, though he noted that neither her nor Trump were “quite unpopular.”
